SmartCanula

Collapsed-insertion, in-situ expansion cannula – reconciles minimal access orifice with maximal intravascular flow area.

Conventional ECMO cannulae force a trade-off between insertion footprint and achievable drainage flow. SmartCanula is introduced collapsed and expands to target diameter in situ, with a virtually wall-less mesh that increases effective luminal area without increasing French size – delivering higher flows at lower suction pressures in published in-vivo data, with a dual-lumen bicaval configuration (20F, 24F, 28F) for single-site VV-ECMO and awake-ECMO mobilization.

  • Higher flow at lower suction pressure – Wall-less mesh expands within the vessel to enlarge effective lumen without enlarging the access orifice.
  • Single-site VV-ECMO – Dual-lumen bicaval (20F, 24F, 28F) via right internal jugular vein.
  • Supports patient mobilization – Single-site access enables active physiotherapy during VV-ECMO.
  • Published in-vivo evidence – Documented flow and suction performance versus control cannulae.
  • DEHP-free and latex-free.
  • Suitable for up to 30 days.
  • Compatible with standard VV-ECMO circuits.

Used for VV-ECMO when maximizing drainage flow and minimizing access footprint is clinically important, including patients managed with awake or mobilized ECMO. Enables higher flow at lower suction pressure and single-site bicaval access via the right internal jugular vein.
