AlgiScan transforms the pupillary dilation reflex into an objective numerical assessment of nociception, supporting individualized analgesia when patients cannot reliably communicate pain

Pain assessment becomes difficult when sedation, anesthesia or critical illness prevents patients from self-reporting. AlgiScan applies controlled ascending tetanic stimulation and measures the resulting pupillary dilation reflex. It calculates the Pupillary Pain Index from 1 to 9, providing a standardized bedside indicator of the nociceptive response. This additional information helps clinicians assess the nociception-analgesia balance and adjust analgesic management to the individual patient
